Alex Rodriguez’s investment in the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx could have become one of the most valuable parts of his business portfolio after a major ownership restructuring valued the franchises at $4.5 billion. While Rodriguez’s exact ownership percentage remains undisclosed, recent reports indicate that the former MLB star is increasing his stake and will remain a major figure in the organization.
The ownership change comes after Marc Lore agreed to sell his controlling stake to fellow investor Marc Stad. According to the Associated Press, the transaction values the Timberwolves and Lynx at $4.5 billion, three times the $1.5 billion valuation attached to Lore and Rodriguez’s original acquisition deal.
Alex Rodriguez’s Timberwolves Ownership Percentage Remains Unclear
Rodriguez and Lore first agreed to purchase the Timberwolves and Lynx in 2021 through a phased acquisition. Early reporting indicated that when the pair acquired their initial 20% stake in the franchises, Lore owned approximately 13%, while Rodriguez owned around 7%.
However, the ownership structure changed significantly during the following years. Additional financing was required, new investors entered the ownership group, and the deal faced a lengthy dispute with former majority owner Glen Taylor before an arbitration ruling allowed the transaction to proceed.
The NBA Board of Governors eventually approved the sale in June 2025, officially making Lore and Rodriguez the controlling owners. The NBA confirmed that the pair would serve as co-chairmen, with Rodriguez becoming the Lynx governor and alternate governor of the Timberwolves.

The latest restructuring now adds another complication to calculating Rodriguez’s exact stake. Marc Stad is set to become the largest shareholder after acquiring most of Lore’s interest, while Lore will retain a minority position. Rodriguez is staying with the ownership group and is reportedly increasing his equity stake.
What Could Alex Rodriguez’s Stake Be Worth?
Because no updated ownership percentage has been publicly released, the value of Rodriguez’s stake can only be estimated. Celebrity Net Worth suggested that a reasonable estimate could place his ownership between roughly 7% and 13%.
At the new $4.5 billion valuation, a 7% stake would carry a gross implied value of approximately $315 million. A 10% stake would be worth about $450 million, while a 13% stake would have an implied value of roughly $585 million.
These figures should not be treated as Rodriguez’s confirmed personal wealth or the cash value of his investment. Ownership stakes can involve debt, financing obligations, and other arrangements that affect an investor’s actual net worth.
Still, the $4.5 billion valuation highlights the dramatic increase in the value of the franchises since Rodriguez and Lore began their acquisition process. Their original deal was valued at $1.5 billion, meaning the combined value of the Timberwolves and Lynx has effectively tripled in only a few years.
Rodriguez’s final ownership percentage will likely determine just how much of that increase belongs to him. For now, the clearest confirmed development is that A-Rod is not leaving the ownership group and is reportedly increasing his investment as the Timberwolves and Lynx enter a new era under Stad’s control.
