Stephen Curry has added another massive milestone to his historic Golden State Warriors career. The four-time NBA champion has agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2028-29 season. The agreement includes a player option for the final year.

The extension is significant beyond Curry’s future with Golden State because it will push his career NBA salary earnings well beyond $600 million. According to reporting based on Spotrac figures, Curry is projected to finish the 2028-29 season with approximately $645 million in on-court earnings if he plays both seasons of the new agreement.

Curry Chose to Leave Money on the Table

Curry could have earned considerably more under the maximum amount available to him. The Associated Press reported that the Warriors star was eligible for a deal worth as much as $136 million, meaning the $116 million agreement represents roughly a $20 million discount.

The decision gives Golden State additional financial flexibility as the franchise attempts to remain competitive around its aging core. Curry has repeatedly expressed his desire to finish his career with the Warriors, where he has spent his entire NBA career since being selected seventh overall in the 2009 NBA Draft.

The new contract begins with the 2027-28 season after Curry completes his current $62.6 million deal for the 2026-27 campaign. If he plays through the new extension, he would reach his 20th NBA season with Golden State.

Curry enters his 18th season as one of the most decorated players in NBA history. He has won four championships, two MVP awards and 12 All-Star selections, while remaining the league’s all-time leader in three-pointers. NBA.com reports that Curry averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists across 43 games during the 2025-26 season.

His latest extension also reinforces the unusual longevity of his relationship with Golden State. If Curry completes the contract, he will have spent two decades with the same franchise, adding another remarkable chapter to one of the defining player-team partnerships in modern NBA history.
