The Atlanta Falcons have secured one of the NFL’s top offensive stars for the foreseeable future, signing Bijan Robinson to a three-year contract extension worth up to $75 million. The new deal makes Robinson the highest-paid running back in NFL history by average annual value, reinforcing Atlanta’s commitment to building its offense around the former first-round pick.
According to reports from the NFL, the extension includes $51 million in guaranteed money, the most ever guaranteed to an active NFL running back outside of rookie contracts. Robinson’s new contract carries an average annual value of $22.25 million, with incentives that could raise it to $25 million per season, surpassing Saquon Barkley’s previous benchmark.
Robinson rewarded after historic start to NFL career
Since being selected eighth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Robinson has quickly established himself as one of the league’s most productive offensive players. Through his first three seasons, he has accumulated 5,648 scrimmage yards, 34 total touchdowns, and has appeared in every regular-season game.
The 2025 campaign was particularly impressive, as Robinson recorded 2,298 scrimmage yards, leading the NFL while setting a new Falcons franchise record. His 5,648 scrimmage yards over his first three seasons rank as the fourth-most by any player in NFL history over that span.
The extension continues an aggressive offseason for Atlanta. The Falcons also signed wide receiver Drake London to a four-year, $141.05 million extension, tight end Kyle Pitts to a three-year, $54 million deal, and guard Matthew Bergeron to a four-year, $96 million contract.
Atlanta enters the upcoming season hoping to improve on last year’s 8-9 record. Robinson is expected to remain the centerpiece of the offense regardless of who wins the starting quarterback job.
The Falcons’ quarterback room includes Michael Penix Jr., veteran addition Tua Tagovailoa, Cooper Rush, and rookie Jack Strand, creating one of the team’s biggest position battles heading into the new season.
By locking up Robinson with a record-setting extension, the Falcons have made it clear that one of the NFL’s most dynamic running backs will remain central to their playoff ambitions for years to come.
