Nigel Farage’s £1.4 million property purchase has come under renewed scrutiny as questions grow around a separate £5 million donation he received earlier in 2024. Reform UK has now clarified that the house was paid for using Farage’s earnings from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, distancing the purchase from the controversial financial gift currently being examined by authorities.
Land registry documents confirms that Farage completed the purchase of a £1.42 million home in Surrey on May 10, 2024. Notably, the transaction was made entirely in cash, without the use of a mortgage.
Reform UK Clarifies Source of Funds
The timing of the purchase raised eyebrows after reports emerged that Farage had received £5 million from businessman Christopher Harborne around the same period. However, Reform UK insists that the two events are unrelated.
In a statement shared with Sky News, the party emphasized that the property purchase process had already been underway before the donation was received. A spokesperson said that Farage had
“already passed proof of funds and the relevant checks before receiving the gift,”
reinforcing the claim that the house was financed independently.
The party further stated that the money used for the purchase came from Farage’s appearance on the ITV reality show, where he reportedly earned a seven-figure fee. His participation in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in December 2023, where he finished third, is believed to have provided the funds necessary for the purchase.

Donation Under Official Investigation
While the house purchase itself may be explained, the £5 million payment from Harborne remains under investigation. The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner is currently examining whether Farage breached rules by failing to declare the donation.
Parliamentary guidelines require MPs to disclose any financial contributions received within 12 months prior to their election. The payment did not appear on Farage’s declaration of interests and only became public after being reported by The Guardian.
Reform UK has maintained that the donation does not fall under these rules, arguing that it was a “personal, unconditional gift” intended for Farage’s security. Harborne himself has supported this explanation, stating in comments reported by The Telegraph that he “wasn’t expecting anything in return apart from ensuring his safety.”
Farage has also addressed the matter publicly, telling The Sun that the payment was “given as a reward for campaigning for Brexit” and expressing confidence that the investigation will not result in any wrongdoing being found.
Timeline Raises Questions
The sequence of events remains a key focus of the inquiry. Harborne’s payment was made on April 5, 2024, just weeks before Farage completed the property purchase and shortly before he announced his candidacy in the general election.
Although Reform UK insists that the house purchase was already in motion, the proximity of these events has led to increased scrutiny. Critics argue that the overlap raises legitimate questions about financial transparency, even if the funds were technically separate.
At the same time, supporters point to the documented timeline as evidence that the property purchase was not dependent on the donation.
Farage’s Public and Political Profile
Farage’s financial dealings have attracted attention in part due to his prominent political role. As a key figure in the Brexit movement and leader of Reform UK, his actions are closely watched by both supporters and critics.
In addition to the £5 million gift, Harborne has become the party’s largest donor, contributing £12 million in 2025. This ongoing financial relationship adds another layer of complexity to the current investigation.
Despite the controversy, Farage has remained active in both media and politics, continuing to build his public profile following his appearance on reality television.
