Roberto Carlos has revealed that he lost 99% of the money he earned during his soccer career because of problems involving former agents and serious family issues. The Brazil and Real Madrid legend made the disclosure during the Portugal Football Summit, where he discussed the importance of preparing athletes for life after retirement.
Carlos said he had already started planning for his post-playing career before retiring, including obtaining a sporting director’s license and working with several brands. Despite those preparations, he claimed that people he trusted left his finances in a devastating position.
“Because of agents and family issues, I lost 99% of everything I had earned in football,”

The former left-back explained that the financial crisis happened much more suddenly than he expected. According to his account, he went to sleep on a Thursday night and received a large collection of documents the following day that he did not know existed.
“I had a very serious problem with my former agent. I had a very serious family problem,”
Carlos said, as reported by UOL. He added that after receiving the documents,
“that’s when I realized I had lost my entire history.”
Carlos did not publicly identify the family members involved or provide a complete breakdown of how his money disappeared. He also did not disclose the full amount of his remaining wealth.
